First, understand that Craps is a game of rounds. Craps can be a baffling game for a novice. The Come Out roll is the first roll in a round. Occasionally the outcome of a round will be decided on the Come out roll. Pay special attention if a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 is rolled on the Come out roll, because it immediately ends a round. If any other overall number is rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) that number is called the Point .

The come out roll is made when the previous shooter fails to make a winning roll, in other words, they fail to make the Point or seven out. When starting a round, the first roll of the dice in a betting round is always called the Come Out roll.

The players surrounding the Craps table all get a chance to shoot or throw the dice. If you decide you don't want to throw the dice, you can bet on the thrower. Many types of bets can be made on the table action.

Let's explain, now that the dice are rolled across the craps table layout, and the layout is divided into three distinct areas - two side areas that are separated by a center one. Each side area is the mirror likeness of the other and contains the all of the following: Pass and Don't Pass line bets, Odds bet, Place bets and Field bets, Come and Don't Come bets. The center area contains the Proposition bets and is jointly shared by two side areas.

Winning/losing plays

When do Pass Bets win? When the roll outcome is 7 or 11, though pass bets lose when the come out roll is 2, 3, or 12.

When do Don't bets win or lose? Don't bets win when the "come out" roll is either a 2 or 3. Don't Bets lose when the "come out" roll is either a 7 or 11.

When do Don't bets tie? Don't Bets are tied when the come out roll is twelve. In some casinos a tie is a 2, and the 'Bar' roll on the layout shows which roll is treated as a tie.

Kinds of bets at Craps

Pass Line Bet - You may win if the initial roll is a natural (7, 11) and you may lose if it is craps (2, 3, 12).

Odds on Pass Line Bet - After a point is rolled you are allowed to make this extra bet by taking odds. There is a variety of payoffs for every point.

Come Bet The identical rules apply as the Pass Line bet. The discrepancy is in the fact that you can make this bet only after the point on the pass line was determined.

Odds on Come Bet - Exactly the same as the Odds on Pass Line bet, with the difference that you take odds on the Come Bet, and not on the Pass Line bet.

Don't Pass Line Bet - This is a upturned Pass Line bet. If the first roll of a dice is a 2 or a 3 you prevail and if it is a natural (7, 11) you are beaten.

Don't Come Bet - A reversed Come Bet. Following the come point is recognized you win if a 2 or 3 are rolled, and you lose with 7 or 11.

Place Bets - This bet works only after the point has been decided. Place a bet on a dice roll of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. 8 pays out 7:6. You can cancel this bet anytime you want.

Field Bets - These bets are for single die (one roll of two dice) roll only. If a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 is rolled then you are the winner. A 5, 6, 7 and 8, you are the loser.
